Rest in Peace, RJ Greer

Robert Martin Greer, Jr. “R.J.” passed away on March 18th, 2021 the way he lived his life, on his own terms. He was a tenacious and obstinate man who refused to do anything he didn’t want. In his short 38 years alive he had strong opinions and wasn’t afraid to share what he thought, but he was also always ready to turn it around and make you smile after he made you frown. Always the jokester, he found every opportunity to make people laugh however he could, be it the mocking of a commercial or at someone else’s or his own expense.

He is survived by his two sisters: Amanda (James) Torrez, her sons Keegan, Koehn, and Ryker; Nichole Greer and her Daughter, Victoria; stepfather Timothy Brooks; Grandmother Gladys Sanders; Aunt Druscilla (Anthony) Brandon, and Uncle Durwin (Marge) Sanders; several cousins and extended family; as well as his numerous friends in Illinois. He is also survived by his father, Robert Martin (Diane) Greer, Sr, sister Kayla and her sons Gideon and James, step-niece and nephews Lance, Dakota, and Briley.

He moved to Arizona twelve years ago and since made dear friends like Tomi and her children Olivia, Kinsey, and Matthew to whom he had been like a big brother, the staff and students at Skyline Education, as well as numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Diane Brooks, grandfather Donald Sanders, cousins Fred, Matthew, and Michael Ray, and nephews Matthew and Luke.

“R.J.” deserves the best sendoff we can manage. Please come and celebrate his life, wearing your everyday clothes (he wouldn’t want anyone uncomfortable and would tease you relentlessly if you dress up on his account) at Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon, IL on April 3, at 10am for the visitation and stay for a short service at 11am. We want to extend an invitation to his friends in Phoenix, and anyone else who is not comfortable attending in person, and we will start a Webex meeting just prior to 11am central time zone. Please copy and paste the link in your web browser to join the service, be sure to mute your line. You may need to download webex prior to the start of the meeting. We hope you can join. https://libertyu.webex.com/meet/nvgreer

In lieu of flowers, a monetary donation can be made to the #2 Nationally ranked and #1 state ranked boys’ basketball team, the AZ Compass Prep Dragons, as “R.J.” was their home game announcer and enjoyed every minute of it! Please use the following link to make that donation.

RJ Greer affected the lives of many, from his interaction with the employees of Skyline Education to the children he bussed as a bus driver for all of our Skyline Education students and the student-athletes he commentated as the sports announcer at AZ Compass Prep School. RJ ( Robert Greer Jr.) started with Skyline back in July of 2009. He gave us almost 12 years of love and dedication.  He looked upon the schools as his additional family. He had a great spirit and made us laugh often.  He will be remembered as a fun-loving personality who loved working in the schools, with the children and the athletes. Skyline Education has lost one of our own and we pray for his family.  Hopefully, they know we have comfort in knowing how much he meant to all of us.
