Coach Pope is from Compton, CA. Played JUCO, D1 & NAIA basketball in college. He’s coached AAU basketball for 5 years with the Los Angeles Rockfish & Nike Bounce (Canada). Prior to coming to AZ Compass Prep, coach spent 2 years at Orangeville Prep (Canada) after leaving the coaching staff at the University of Washington.Second National Team Head Coach:
MAURICE RIDDICK
Maurice Riddick is an ex professional basketball player of 13 years and Head Coach of 3 years with a lot of experience at a high level. Coach Riddick has work with scouting and player development with the NBA Nike Americas Team Camps and has been a part of the growth of many players all over the world. Coach Riddick is dedicated to the development of the youth and is determined to set them up for success.National Team Head Coach:
ED GIBSON
He comes to AZ Compass Prep after spending one year at Chandler High School where they reached the state playoffs. Before Chandler High he spent six years as associate head coach at Robert Morris University-Chicago. During this time he was apart of three NAIA D1 final fours and one elite eight appearance and a overall record of 124-42. At Robert Morris, Gipson assisted in all aspects of the program, including national and international recruiting, scouting reports, game plans, practices and working with community. Prior to joining the Eagles, Coach Gipson led his Ralph Ellison Charter School team to a 17-3 record and an undefeated conference record. Before that he worked as assistant Varsity Basketball Coach at Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, IN, where helped lead the Varsity team to a Indiana high school association Sectional Championship. He has worked with numerous AAU programs and also helped place many prep players in NJCAA and NCAA Division I program. Ed finished his collegiate career at Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Division II the Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN) under current American Athletic Conference Associate Commissioner Nate Pomeday, while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems. “Ed is one of the great leaders in the coaching industry who has built great relationships with coaches at all levels,” says RMU head Coach Al Bruehl. “He is a student of the game, and his passion for basketball and dedication to the players make him an asset to any program.”Program Director / Coach:
PETE KAFFEY
Peter Kaffey is originally from Minneapolis, MN where he has developed an extensive reputation within the local and national basketball scene as one of top recruiters and skill development coach. Kaffey has worked with many top high school to professional players including Minneapolis local and former Milwaukee Bucks player and 2015 17th overall draft pick Rashad Vaughn. Kaffey coached at Robbinsdale Cooper high school from 2006 to 2013 as the sophomore head coach and associate head Varsity Coach. During 2014-16, Kaffey also sat on the bench at Findlay Prep as an assistant/player development coach where he was in charge of leading skill development during all practices during which their program was consistently ranking #1 by USA Today polls. Kaffey worked for NBA Draft Net 2015-2016 as a scout and a writer. Kaffey has a strong passion for coaching, recruiting, helping each player identify strengths and weakness through film breakdown and detailed on-court preparation.
